there will come a day when a building like this will go by the title of "home".

the scenic route.

Seen on today’s drive:

  • the partridge family bus
  • Suckerport Street
  • a monument dedicated to the Paperboys of America
  • a town named Whoville
  • a field with 60 foot high letters mowed into it spelling “OBAMA”
  • a picnic area dedicated to “the Optimist Club”

MOCA

snazzy sunset, snazzy place

Overheard at the MOCA bookstore:

“What is Maus?”

“Oh, it’s one of those cartoon books about the holocaust. It’s for kids.”

and the roots were coming out at the top - how do you go about convincing a tree to do that?

upside down forest

The MOCA building has existed as a shoe factory, a cloth printing factory, and an electric company prior to housing the modern art galleries. They left the interior deliciously raw…

i want to live here.

i would happily live in the bathroom. as long as there were a few less people using it...

i confess that i spent as much time looking at the walls as i did looking at the art hung on them.

yay, toe shoes!

I took a picture of this for no other reason than to defend my toe shoe obsession in an ongoing argument with a particular friend in Virginia whose initials are CW and answers by the name of Cristian. I proclaim that toe shoes are now validated by living in an art museum. It’s a weak argument, but I stand by my toe shoes. Or, I guess I stand in my toe shoes. Or something.

we would so totally buy these if they were available as helmets.

what it feels like to be in a david byrne video.

The Sol Lewitt exhibit will be on for the next 25 years, and it might just take that long for any normal human being to fully process. Not recommended for anyone prone to vertigo. It’s the best art I’ve fed my brain in ages…

remixed version of Sol Lewitt

In order to balance out all the culture and education we absorbed, we stopped at the Hot Dog Ranch on the way home and consumed a lot of deep fat fried foods, including the newly discovered “Mac & Cheese Nugget”. It is what it says it is, and it’s fantastic.
